🎭 Campus waves

Westerville • March 13, 2025

Good morning, Westerville. The echoes of protest have returned to Ohio State's campus as hundreds rallied against Senate Bill 1, which would dramatically reshape higher education policies around diversity initiatives, faculty rights, and classroom discussions. This controversial legislation comes just as the university closed its Office of Diversity and Inclusion, eliminating sixteen positions and adding fuel to an already heated debate about academic freedom in our state.

In brighter news, what Columbus locals have always known is now officially confirmed: Ohio State's marching band reigns supreme nationwide. A new study crowned the brass-and-percussion powerhouse America's most popular college band with an astounding 214% popularity score, more than doubling its nearest competitor. Meanwhile, Ohio nurses are expressing cautious relief as troubled Steward Health exits two local hospitals, though concerns about patient care remain front and center during the transition.

📚 Ohio State protesters rally against controversial education bill. Hundreds gathered to oppose Senate Bill 1, which would ban diversity efforts, block faculty strikes, and regulate classroom discussions on controversial topics. The bill, already passed by the state Senate, would also set rules around discussing climate policies, electoral politics, and social issues in classrooms. Faculty warn that passage could drive talented professors away, taking valuable research dollars with them. The protest coincided with Ohio State's recent closure of its Office of Diversity and Inclusion, eliminating sixteen staff positions.
