Good morning, Vinton County. The power of community shines through in Appalachian Ohio's "Fill the Freezer" initiative, which has delivered an impressive 33,000 pounds of locally raised meat to food pantries this year alone. What began in Perry County has blossomed into a seven-county effort connecting livestock exhibitors with families facing food insecurity, providing over 92,000 pounds of protein since its inception – a testament to rural communities taking care of their own during challenging times.

Meanwhile, as food assistance programs face potential changes under the proposed One Big Beautiful Bill Act, local resources like Ohio University's Cats Cupboard continue addressing immediate needs with approximately 3,000 visits since January. On the technology front, OU Chillicothe is empowering residents with free AI workshops this fall, offering both introductory sessions and advanced prompting techniques for tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot – making cutting-edge technology accessible to everyone in our community.

🍽️ Trump's new bill slashes SNAP benefits for millions of Americans. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act reduces eligibility, tightens work requirements, and shifts financial burden to states starting in 2028. An estimated 3.2 million people will lose food assistance monthly between 2025-2034, according to the Congressional Budget Office. College students face particularly steep hurdles to qualify, despite 3.8 million experiencing food insecurity in 2020. Local resources like Ohio University's Cats Cupboard food pantry have seen approximately 3,000 visits since January as families struggle with rising food costs.
