Vinton County • June 17, 2025
Good morning, Vinton County. Literary enthusiasts, mark your calendars for June 16, 2025! Bloomsday will bring a special tribute to Virginia Woolf and the late Dr. Carey Snyder when the Athena Cinema hosts a free screening of "Mrs. Dalloway." This cultural celebration invites attendees to don their finest 1920s attire and enjoy themed cocktails—a fitting homage to a beloved Ohio University professor and Woolf scholar.
As temperatures rise, so does community generosity across our region. Good Works continues its tradition of summer nourishment with free lunches for all ages starting June 16 at their Luhrig Road property. While this program serves up connection and nutrition four days a week, Chillicothe authorities dealt with a different kind of summer incident when an intoxicated driver crashed, fled, and then physically resisted officers—a stark reminder of the challenges our law enforcement professionals face while keeping our communities safe.

🚓 Drunk driver crashes, flees, then fights officers in Chillicothe. Jacob Estep was arrested after hitting another vehicle multiple times near Roosters on Bridge Street and fleeing the scene on June 1. Officers later found his white truck parked on a curb behind a nearby hotel. When confronted, Estep refused commands to exit his vehicle and physically resisted arrest, briefly wrapping his arm around an officer's neck before surrendering when threatened with a TASER. He faces charges of obstructing official business, operating a vehicle under the influence, leaving an accident scene, and driving under OVI suspension.
