Good morning, Vinton County. Talk about going above and beyond your job description! A quick-thinking FedEx driver became an unlikely hero when he recognized a wanted fugitive hitchhiking, offered him a ride, then locked him in the back of his delivery truck until police arrived. Timothy Wickersham, wanted in both West Virginia and Ohio, had earlier crashed his vehicle during a police chase before his delivery truck detainment led to his capture.

While the sheriff's office tackles everything from suspicious bikers to reports of methamphetamine at McDonald's (with a humorous offer to return suspected drugs to their rightful owner), the future looks bright for local graduates. Eleven talented students received $1,000 scholarships from the Jefferson Alumni, continuing a tradition that has supported 188 scholars since 2003. Several new memorial scholarships joined the lineup this year, ensuring educational opportunities continue for generations to come.

📦 FedEx driver tricks and traps wanted fugitive in delivery truck. Timothy Wickersham, a 45-year-old man wanted in both West Virginia and Ohio, was captured after a police chase ended with him crashing his vehicle and fleeing into the woods. A quick-thinking FedEx driver spotted Wickersham hitchhiking, recognized him from social media alerts, and offered him a ride. The driver then locked Wickersham in the back of his delivery truck and called 911, leading to the fugitive's arrest. Authorities had been pursuing Wickersham for failure to comply charges and a parole violation.

The Athens County Sheriff's Office responded to a variety of unusual calls, including suspicious bikers near a vehicle with a gas spill, an elderly lost driver going the wrong way, and a report of methamphetamine found at McDonald's. Deputies also investigated complaints about a computer user stealing personal information, a door-to-door utility worker, and someone hearing voices on security cameras. In a humorous note, police offered to return a bag of suspected drugs to anyone who could prove ownership.
