Good morning, Vinton County. From broadcasting booth to boardroom and back again, Larry Katz's journey has come full circle with his induction into Ohio Communication Hall of Fame. The 1977 Ohio University graduate may have traded microphones for menus in New Orleans, but his record-setting donations to WOUB Public Media prove you can leave broadcasting without broadcasting ever leaving you. His generosity now fuels scholarships for the next generation of communication professionals.
Just a stone's throw away, Chillicothe VA Medical Center is transforming mental health awareness into a community celebration. Their May 4th SpringFest combines a scenic 5k run, live music, and car show with crucial veteran support resources. Meanwhile, state lawmakers are establishing new guardrails for hemp-derived THC products through Senate Bill 86, which would create age restrictions and authorize sales of low-dose cannabinoid drinks in various establishments. The regulatory proposal now heads to the Ohio House.

🎙️ Sports broadcaster turned restaurateur joins Ohio Communication Hall of Fame. Larry Katz, a 1977 radio and television graduate of Ohio University, was inducted into the Scripps College's prestigious hall on April 24. Despite pursuing a business career in New Orleans rather than broadcasting, Katz never forgot his WOUB Public Media roots. His generous donations established scholarships and the WOUB Sports Student Leadership and Production Fund, making him the college's largest individual donor. "I am who I am because of the people at this station and the work I did here," Katz said during the ceremony.

🌿 Ohio Senate cracks down on intoxicating hemp products. Senate Bill 86, sponsored by Senators Wilkin and Huffman, creates regulations for hemp-derived THC products to protect consumers and businesses. The legislation establishes age restrictions, requiring purchasers to be 21 or older, and authorizes the sale of low-dose drinkable cannabinoid products in dispensaries, breweries, and restaurants. Violators face serious penalties—selling to minors results in a fifth-degree felony. The bill now moves to the Ohio House for consideration.
