Union County • August 5, 2025
Good morning, Union County. Pack your patience and plan alternate routes – road construction season has kicked into high gear across our area. U.S. 42 southbound closes July 8, joining SR 736 and the SR 161 eastbound ramp to U.S. 33 in a trifecta of traffic disruptions that will test drivers through Fall 2025. The silver lining? Officials have mapped out clear detours to help navigate these necessary infrastructure improvements.
Amid the roadwork, our community pauses to remember two remarkable lives. Lynn Oldham, a 71-year-old lifelong farmer whose Sunday morning "church" sessions with coffee buddies were legendary, leaves behind a legacy of hard work and devotion to family. Similarly, William "Bill" McMillen's passing marks the end of an era for a pharmacist whose contributions extended from healthcare administration to music ministry, touching countless lives throughout his 71 years of service.

🚧 Major road closures hit Union County through Fall 2025. U.S. 42 southbound between SR 745 and U.S. 33 will close starting July 8, with traffic detoured via SR 257, U.S. 36, and U.S. 33. State Route 736 is also closed between Taylor Rd. and Robinson Rd. for a 120-day bridge replacement project. The SR 161 eastbound ramp to U.S. 33 southbound will remain closed through Summer 2025, with traffic redirected through the Eiterman Rd. roundabout. Motorists are advised to stay alert, reduce speed, and watch for stopped traffic in all work zones.
🚜 A lifelong farmer's legacy ends at 71 in Marion. Lynn L. Oldham, devoted husband and father, passed away on August 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Known for his hard work and love of Farmall IH tractors, Lynn found joy in Sunday morning "church" sessions with coffee buddies at his shop. He cherished camping trips with friends and family and leaves behind his wife Jan, son Chad, granddaughter Oaklee, and several siblings. A celebration of Lynn's life will be held at the Oldham Farm on August 7.
🕯️ Beloved pharmacist and community leader leaves lasting legacy at 71. William "Bill" McMillen of Plain City passed away peacefully at home after battling pancreatic cancer. The retired Ohio Board of Pharmacy administrator dedicated his career to advancing pharmacy, including establishing a Pharmacy Technician Program after his 2009 retirement. Beyond his professional achievements, McMillen was a gifted musician who served as organist and choir director at several churches, and maintained lifelong involvement with the Boy Scouts, earning Eagle Scout honors in his youth. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, DiAnn, and his two children.
