🚧 Detour drama

Good morning, Union County. There's something awe-inspiring about watching 102 brave souls rappel down a 330-foot Downtown Columbus skyscraper for a cause. Gracehaven's "Over The Edge" fundraiser soared past its $250,000 goal, supporting crucial services for survivors of human trafficking. As first-timer Ashley Kimmel discovered, sometimes the hardest part is simply taking that first step off the ledgeβ€”a metaphor that resonates beyond the event itself.

Meanwhile, local drivers might need to channel some of that daredevil courage as major roadwork transforms our commutes. U.S. 42 construction begins July 8, bringing complete southbound closures between Union and Delaware counties until Fall 2025. Add to that the U.S. 36 shutdown, SR 736's 120-day closure starting June 16, and ongoing SR 161/U.S. 33 interchange work, and suddenly rappelling down a skyscraper doesn't seem like the only adventure in town.

πŸͺ‚ Daredevils rappel down skyscraper to fight human trafficking. Gracehaven's annual "Over The Edge" fundraiser surpassed its $250,000 goal as 102 participants descended 330 feet down a Downtown Columbus building. The June 13 event supports Gracehaven's work providing care and safe housing for minor survivors of sex trafficking and exploitation. First-time rappeller Ashley Kimmel described the experience as "unforgettable," with the hardest part being that initial step off the ledge. Donations for the fundraiser remain open until the end of the month at gracehavenovertheedge.com.

Southbound lanes will close completely during construction, with northbound traffic maintained throughout the multi-season project. Work is scheduled for interim completion by Fall 2025, allowing both directions to reopen for winter, before final completion in Fall 2026. A separate but coordinated project improving the U.S. 42 and Industrial Parkway intersection is also expected to begin in July.
