Union County • June 19, 2025
Good morning, Union County. Juneteenth celebrations are taking center stage in Marysville this week, with Partners Park transforming into a hub of community unity on June 19. The festivities kick off at 8:30 a.m. with a complimentary breakfast from local favorites McKinley's Grille and Yeasty Boys, accompanied by live jazz from Marysville High School students and special addresses from city leaders. It's a meaningful commemoration of freedom and history right in our backyard.
History buffs got their own special treat recently when Paul Revere himself—or rather, historian Brent Carson in revolutionary garb—galloped into the local DAR meeting. Meanwhile, education matters continue moving forward as the Marysville school board prepares for a special June 26 hearing to discuss potentially rehiring four retirees. The expanded meeting will also address proposals for a propane station and creation of new funds.

📅 Marysville school board to consider retiree re-employment next month. A special public hearing will be held on June 26, 2025, to discuss the potential rehiring of four retired employees: Scott Forney, Rebecca Tucker, Natalie Askew, and Molly Balch. The meeting, which will take place at 5pm in the Central Office Community Engagement Room, has been expanded to also address a resolution regarding a propane station and the creation of new funds. This hearing is being announced at least 60 days prior to any potential re-employment, as required by Ohio law.
🇺🇸 History comes alive as Paul Revere rides into DAR meeting. The Delaware City and Captain William Hendricks DAR chapters held their annual joint meeting on May 17 at All Occasions Catering in Waldo. Brent Carson from the Delaware County Historical Society, dressed as Paul Revere, captivated the 27 attendees with tales of the Revolutionary hero's famous ride and life. Carson recited Longfellow's "The Midnight Ride" poem, pointing out its historical inaccuracies while explaining the actual network of riders who warned communities about British movements. The patriotic gathering featured themed desserts and commemorative lantern favors honoring the historic rides of April 1775.
