Summit County • October 24, 2025
Good morning, Summit County. Leadership takes many forms in our community, as evidenced by Air Force Colonel James McClellan, who traded his 32-year military career for civic engagement right here in Bath Township. Since settling locally four years ago, he's become a fixture in organizations from the Bath Business Association to the Summit County Historical Society, documenting historic barns and working to enhance our shared quality of life.
In stark contrast to these community-building efforts, a troubling case has unfolded involving a mother-daughter duo charged with the brutal murder of a Canton man. Authorities continue investigating what led to this shocking violence between former housemates. Meanwhile, the county has published its latest death notices, a somber reminder of neighbors lost across our communities from Akron to Uniontown during the summer months.

🇺🇸 Air Force Colonel returns home to serve his community. James McClellan settled in Bath Township four years ago after a 32-year military career, immediately immersing himself in local organizations. He currently serves as vice president of the Bath Business Association, documenting the area's historic barns, while also holding board positions with the Bath Community Fund and Summit County Historical Society. As an active Kiwanis Club member, McClellan has demonstrated his commitment to community service. A local supporter, Mike Marks, endorses McClellan's candidacy for Bath Township trustee, praising his dedication to improving the community's quality of life.
💀 Mother-daughter duo charged with brutal murder of Canton man. Yolanda Lowery, 54, and her 70-year-old mother Dorothy are accused of beating Jerry Morris to death in Canton before his body was discovered outside a vacant Akron house. Police say the three knew each other and had previously lived together, though they weren't sharing a home when the July 30 assault occurred. Investigators from both cities worked together to determine the homicide happened in Canton. Authorities are still trying to establish a motive for the killing while both women remain in custody.
