Art x Love's remarkable "Akron Stories" project is bringing those narratives to life through over 100 mini-documentaries featuring the everyday heroes who powered the Rubber Capital through war, segregation, and economic challenges. Free screenings across the city this fall offer a perfect opportunity to connect with our industrial heritage during Akron's Bicentennial celebrations.
Latin rhythms will soon fill downtown as "Raíces, Ritmos & Recuerdos" transforms Lock 3 on September 20, bringing vibrant cultural traditions, wrestling shows, and culinary delights from across Latin America. Meanwhile, rock legends aren't far behind – the Doobie Brothers are rolling into Blossom Music Center on September 17, with Michael McDonald rejoining Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons to deliver five decades of Grammy-winning classics that have become the soundtrack to so many Summit County memories.

🏭 Akron's rubber workers' stories come alive in free film screenings. Art x Love is showcasing over 100 mini-documentaries celebrating the everyday people who made Akron the Rubber Capital of the World. The "Akron Stories" project has collected thousands of narratives through 135+ interviews, preserving the legacy of those who persevered through war, segregation, and poverty. Free public screenings will be held at local theaters across Akron from September through November as part of the city's Bicentennial celebration. A touchscreen oral history kiosk will also be installed at the Main Branch Library thanks to an ArtsForward grant.
🎸 Legendary Doobie Brothers bringing 50-year legacy to Blossom Music Center. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers will perform on September 17 in Cuyahoga Falls with the Coral Reefer Band as support. The show features the celebrated lineup of Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston, and Michael McDonald, who reunited for their 50th-anniversary tour and decided to keep performing together. The festival features live performances from acts like Grupo Fuego and Herencia Nortena, plus entertainment including wrestling shows, stilt walkers, magic, and hourly piñatas. Food options range from Carne Asada Box to Johnny Lóte's Latin Street Corn, showcasing the rich culinary diversity of Latin America.
