Good morning, Summit County. The power of music extends far beyond entertainment, as Marc Lee Shannon demonstrates. The former Michael Stanley guitarist is transforming his personal struggles with alcoholism into a message of hope at TownHall II's upcoming picnic on September 11. Shannon's journey from rock guitarist to certified peer recovery supporter shows how even our darkest chapters can become someone else's guiding light.
Meanwhile, our community mourns the loss of a true pioneer as Lisa Drumm's legacy lives on through her artistic vision and business acumen. The 89-year-old gallery manager who helped establish Akron's vibrant arts scene leaves behind not just her whimsical soft sculptures with hidden surprises, but also a blueprint for female entrepreneurship. In more troubling news, a former Archbishop Hoban teacher faces serious charges after allegations of inappropriate relationships with students emerged, reminding us of the sacred trust we place in educators.

🎨 Lisa Drumm's death leaves legacy of art and business innovation. The 89-year-old artist and gallery manager died July 30 after a lifetime championing American crafts and managing Don Drumm Studios and Gallery in Akron. As a pioneering female business owner, she managed finances and grew the gallery while creating her own distinctive soft sculpture dolls with hidden stories and surprises inside. Lisa balanced teaching art, raising three daughters, and enabling her husband Don's metal sculpture career, embodying the American Craft Movement they helped establish.
🚨 Former high school teacher charged with sexual battery of students. Chad Kendall, 36, who taught at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, turned himself in following allegations of sexual relationships with two former students aged 16-17. According to police, the incidents occurred between spring 2023 and late 2024, with the victims coming forward after learning of Kendall's previous arrest in June for a separate assault charge. School President Chris DiMauro expressed devastation that "the safety of our students may have been violated by someone in a position of trust."
