Good morning, Summit County. As Memorial Day approaches and summer beckons, Northeast Ohio drivers are feeling the pinch at the pump. Gas prices have climbed to $3.05 per gallon in Akron, part of a nationwide trend affecting over 75% of states. Though the increase stings, there's a silver lining – experts predict "one of the most affordable summers for hitting the road since the pandemic," with prices still 41 cents lower than last year.

Meanwhile, community transformations are underway across the region. Habitat for Humanity's Silver Maple Ridge development in North Hill received a welcome $5,000 boost from DuPont, advancing their 16-home affordable housing initiative. On the restaurant scene, The Rail's original Fairlawn location will serve its final burgers on May 23 after 14 years, as the brand evolves into "Rail Craft Kitchen & Bar" with an expanded culinary vision. Loyal patrons have until Thursday to say their farewells before visiting the chain's remaining locations.
