Stark County • May 6, 2025
Good morning, Stark County. Mother Nature isn't exactly rolling out the welcome mat today as potentially severe storms barrel toward our region. The National Weather Service warns we could face the triple threat of strong winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall through Tuesday night. But don't cancel your weekend plans just yet—by Wednesday, we'll begin a refreshing weather turnaround with clearer skies and temperatures climbing into the pleasant 70s by the weekend.
Meanwhile, leadership transitions are underway at North Canton Schools, where Hoover High's principal Eric Bornstine will step into the treasurer role this July. And talk about staying power—the Canton Women's Club is marking an impressive 105 years of community service since its 1920 founding. Members will celebrate this remarkable milestone with a "Through the Decades" gala luncheon on June 28, complete with a special appearance from their visionary founder.

🌩️ Stark County braces for potentially severe storms today. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the Canton area, warning of possible strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rainfall. Showers and thunderstorms are expected through Tuesday night, with precipitation chances reaching 80% at times. Conditions should improve by Wednesday, with clearer skies and temperatures in the 60s and 70s forecast for the remainder of the week. Weekend weather looks particularly pleasant with mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the 70s.
🏫 North Canton Schools taps principal Bornstine as new treasurer. Eric Bornstine, currently Hoover High School's principal, will replace Tim Walker in the district's financial leadership role starting July 1. The Board of Education approved his appointment following an extensive search conducted with help from the Stark County Educational Service Center. Bornstine, who has served as Hoover's principal since 2016, holds a treasurer's license along with superintendent, principal, and teaching credentials. Board President Jessica Stroia praised his "deep financial acumen" and dedication to educational excellence as Walker prepares to become the district's superintendent.
🏠 Canton Women's Club celebrates 105 years of community service and philanthropy. Founded in 1920 by Euroia Barrick, the organization established its home in a historic Victorian Gothic house on Market Avenue. The club began when civic-minded women sold $100,000 in stock shares to create a central meeting place for various women's organizations. Throughout its century-plus history, the club has maintained its dual mission of social connection and community support, helping organizations like Akron Children's Hospital and YWCA. Members will commemorate this milestone with a "Through the Decades" gala luncheon on June 28, featuring an actor portraying founder Mrs. Barrick.
