Good morning, Scioto County. Leadership transitions are making waves across our community this week. Sommer McCorkle steps into her role as Ironton City Schools superintendent with 22 years of educational experience and a fresh vision centered on "excellence in academics, arts, and athletics." Meanwhile, the county commissioner's office faces turmoil as Bryan Davis confronts 13 felony charges in a corruption scandal that has prompted bipartisan calls for his resignation.

On a more inspiring note, Shawnee State's women's cross country team is gaining national recognition, ranking 36th in the NAIA Preseason Coaches Poll. With their top eight runners returning, including standout Olivia Cisco, and eight promising new recruits joining the roster, the Bears appear poised to reach the National Championships for the first time since 2019. Their journey from consistent conference runner-up to potential champions offers a bright spot in our local sports landscape.

⚖️ County Commissioner faces 13 felony charges in corruption scandal. Bryan Davis and his wife were indicted by a Scioto County Grand Jury for alleged bribery and corrupt activities involving the Southern Ohio Port Authority and a business park. Both Davis's fellow commissioners have called for his immediate resignation, citing the precedent set when they terminated another official facing similar charges. The investigation alleges Davis used his position to secure contracts and receive kickbacks through consulting firms owned by their spouses. Despite Davis's earlier claims about presumption of innocence, the indictments have rocked the county with bipartisan calls for his resignation.
