Good morning, Scioto County. Summer skies aren't the only things lighting up this week as the New Boston Library transforms into a cosmic playground with their Space Art Glow Party for tweens. This stellar event joins a constellation of free community activities, from planetarium shows at Shawnee State to creative library programs across the county. While public life buzzes with opportunity, the commissioners continue their regular business—making decisions that affect us all and streaming sessions for those who can't attend in person.

Amid these bright moments, our community faces profound loss following a devastating collision that claimed the lives of Heather Reger and 6-year-old Bryston Adkins, remembered by his school as "a bright light... full of joy, curiosity, and kindness." In county leadership, Merit Smith steps into the commissioner role vacated by the late Cathy Coleman, bringing fresh perspective while honoring her legacy as he seeks new investment opportunities for our region.

🏛️ South Webster's Merit Smith fills vacant county commissioner seat. Smith was appointed by the Scioto County Republican Central Committee to complete the term of Commissioner Cathy Coleman, who died on July 4 following a May car accident. The committee accepted self-nominations before voting Tuesday night to install Smith in the position. While friends with Coleman, Smith emphasized he's not trying to fill her shoes but instead wants to bring integrity to the role. He aims to collaborate with the other two commissioners to find new investment opportunities for Scioto County.
