Good morning, Scioto County. Mark your calendars and charge your devices—downtown Portsmouth will experience a brief power vacation this Thursday when AEP conducts a scheduled two-hour blackout along Chillicothe Street. The early-bird maintenance from 5-7 a.m. affects just 31 customers but serves as a reminder of the infrastructure work constantly happening while most of us sleep. Those in the affected area might want to prepare for an extra-early wake-up call or enjoy a rare moment of pre-dawn tranquility.

Creativity knows no age limit in our region, where artists 55 and older are preparing submissions for the 43rd annual Older Adult Art Show running September through October at Bristol Village. Meanwhile, across the river, the 'Rock the Country' festival at Boyd County Fairgrounds delivered more than just music—sheriff's deputies reported eight arrests during the event, with seven involving alcohol-related incidents. A reminder that summer festivities sometimes come with unexpected encores.
