Good morning, Scioto County. Summer's scorching temperatures have made their mark on local events, with the popular Taste of Ironton food festival postponing until July 29 due to dangerous heat forecasts. The rescheduled Tuesday evening celebration will now coincide with the concert series, creating what promises to be an even more vibrant downtown experience—just hold onto those ticket booklets if you've already purchased them!

Meanwhile, winter's lingering impact continues to disrupt community services as the Chesapeake library branch has closed its doors due to progressive roof damage from ice and snow. Staff are scrambling to establish alternative locations, with St. Ann Catholic Church stepping up to temporarily host some programming. In administrative news, the Ironton Board of Education has called a special Wednesday meeting to address critical personnel matters and an ongoing investigation—decisions that will shape the district's immediate future.

🏛️ Chesapeake library shutters after roof damage threatens public safety. The Briggs Lawrence County Public Library branch in Chesapeake closed on June 20 due to structural issues stemming from winter weather damage. Library Director Gretchen Claypool explained that heavy ice and snow earlier in the year caused progressive damage to the building's roof, necessitating immediate closure for safety reasons. Staff are actively working to establish an alternative location, with St. Ann Catholic Church temporarily hosting some library programming in the interim. Patrons are encouraged to visit other branches in Ironton, South Point, Proctorville, and Symmes Valley while the library's board of trustees determines the building's future.
