Good morning, Scioto County. The future just got a little brighter for dozens of Lawrence County graduates, with over $81,000 in scholarship funds distributed to 46 deserving students across five local high schools. From the Dick Griffith Scholarship to the Jane McConnell Memorial fund, these financial boosts represent both community investment and recognition of academic excellence as these young scholars prepare for their next chapters.

Meanwhile, food lovers can mark their calendars for June 28, when the long-awaited Taste of Ironton returns to downtown after a multi-year hiatus. For just $10, visitors can sample delights from thirteen local eateries while casting their vote for the people's choice award. In other community news, the Lawrence County Animal Shelter is reminding residents that purchasing those annual dog tags isn't just the lawβ€”it's a lifeline for a facility currently operating at capacity and working to reunite lost pets with their owners.

Shelter director Denise Paulus emphasized that tags help keep dogs safe, reunite lost pets with owners faster, and provide essential funding for the no-kill shelter currently facing high capacity. With only 5,010 dog licenses sold in Lawrence County for 2025, the shelter is shifting from door-to-door outreach to digital campaigns and community events to boost compliance.
