Good morning, Scioto County. Mark your calendars! The Scioto County Recorder's Office will temporarily close its doors mid-June for renovations, with title searchers needing to wrap up business before 2 p.m. on June 18. The office will remain closed through June 20, with Juneteenth observance falling in between. While this administrative housekeeping takes place, culture enthusiasts can look forward to Ohio University Southern's free Culture & Heritage Festival on June 14, featuring live music, vendors, and activities celebrating our region's diverse traditions.
Speaking of celebrations, the summer of 1975 wasn't just memorable for the release of a certain shark movie—it also saw Ashland's football team earn their fearsome "JAWS" nickname while terrorizing opponents en route to a state championship. Greg Jackson, a standout from that legendary squad, will soon be honored as a Sports Day honoree, his letterman jacket still proudly displaying the championship patch from that remarkable season when Tomcat excellence truly had some bite.
