Scioto County • February 26, 2025
Good morning, Scioto County. In sports, they say it's not how you start but how you finish. That wisdom hit particularly close to home for Ironton's Fighting Tigers this week, as their promising playoff run met an unexpected final chapter against Zane Trace. Despite leading by double digits and stellar performances from their standouts, sometimes even the most compelling stories take an unforeseen turn in the fourth quarter.
On a more hopeful note, CASA of Southern Ohio is writing a new chapter in child advocacy, expanding their vital program into Lawrence County. As they seek volunteers to be voices for our region's most vulnerable youth, they're reminding us that some of life's most meaningful victories happen not on the basketball court, but in the quiet moments when ordinary citizens step up to make extraordinary differences in children's lives.

🏀 Ironton's second-half collapse leads to heartbreaking playoff exit. The Fighting Tigers squandered a 10-point lead against Zane Trace Pioneers, ultimately falling 52-45 in the Division 5 district semifinals. Despite strong performances from Bryce Markins (15 points) and Braden Schreck (11 points), Ironton's offense went cold in the fourth quarter, managing just 6 points. The loss marked another defeat against elite competition, as Zane Trace (20-4) advanced to face Minford in the district finals. Coach Barnes acknowledged his team's effort, noting they've consistently battled with the region's top programs.
🤲 Volunteers needed to be voices for Ohio's most vulnerable foster children. CASA of Southern Ohio has expanded its child advocacy program into Lawrence County, joining 60 other Ohio counties already served. The program seeks community members aged 21 and older who can complete 30 hours of training and pass background checks. Qualified volunteers meet monthly with foster children and represent them in court proceedings. Led by Lecia Menshouse in Ironton, the program aims to ensure every foster child has a dedicated advocate fighting for their interests.

The Minford Falcons soared to new heights Monday night, crushing South Point 72-44 in a non-league showdown that wasn't as close as your last Amazon delivery. The win pushes the high-flying Falcons to an impressive 22-1 record, while the Pointers might need to sharpen their aim after falling to 12-11.
