πŸ“š Fiscal Fumble

Scioto County • January 20, 2025

Good morning, Scioto County. Remember that old saying about keeping your financial house in order? Union Township in Pike County is learning that lesson the hard way after being declared "unauditable" - a bureaucratic way of saying their books are messier than a teenager's bedroom. The situation has left their new fiscal officer, Jessica White, playing detective with missing records in a real-life municipal mystery that would make any accountant's head spin.

On a brighter note, life-saving technology could be coming to a community near you, thanks to King's Daughters Health Foundation's AED donation program. While Ironton's Fighting Tigers may have had a tough night on the hardwood against Spring Valley, sometimes the most important victories happen off the court - like the 150 defibrillators this program has already placed throughout our region.

πŸ“Š Ohio township's financial records are in complete chaos after officer quits. Union Township in Pike County has been declared "unauditable" for 2022-2023 after the previous fiscal officer left without filing required reports or transferring records. The new fiscal officer, Jessica White, who took office in April 2024, inherited a mess of inadequate documentation and incomplete accounting systems. The township now faces a 90-day deadline to revise financial records and provide necessary audit data. Failure to comply could result in legal action from the Attorney General, including subpoenas and lawsuits to compel the production of required information.

πŸ€ Cold shooting dooms Ironton in tough 63-45 road loss. The Fighting Tigers shot a frigid 31% from the field against undefeated Spring Valley, including just 6-of-26 from three-point range. Despite early leads and a strong first quarter performance, Ironton (5-4) couldn't overcome Spring Valley's defensive pressure and a devastating 14-0 run in the second quarter. Harrison Riggs led the Timberwolves (9-0) with 26 points, while Bryce Markins and Braden Schreck each contributed 12 points for Ironton. Coach Chris Barnes remained optimistic despite the loss, praising his team's execution while noting "We did everything we needed to do to win the game except put the ball in that orange thing up there."
