Good morning, Ross County. Twenty local students just received keys to their future thanks to the Gates Foundation, which has now helped approximately 300 Ross County residents pursue higher education since 2004. This year's recipients are heading to institutions from Ohio State to Colorado State, embodying the Gates family's belief that "little is as valuable as a college education" for creating lifelong impact. Meanwhile, in a creative twist that's sure to generate excitement, the Ross County Fair is planning its first-ever School Bus Demo Derby for 2025, inviting young artists to transform their district's buses before they crash for glory.
On the employment front, South Central Ohio Job & Family Services is expanding support for Chillicothe paper mill workers facing shutdown, with extended office hours and a postponed job fair now featuring 80 eager employers. And in a case of "wrong place, wrong ride," Blake Madru's bicycle journey came to an abrupt halt when police discovered he was pedaling on stolen property, landing him in the Ross County Jail with additional charges.
