Good morning, Ross County. A significant changing of the guard is underway at Adena Pike Medical Center, where local native Andrew Bauer will soon step into the leadership role on September 1. This transition marks a continuation of healthcare expansion throughout our region, ensuring residents maintain access to nearly 20 medical specialties without traveling far from homeβ€”a particularly welcome development as researchers reveal concerning statistics about "broken heart syndrome," which proves twice as deadly for men despite affecting women at much higher rates.

On brighter notes, Piketon's volleyball program has plenty to celebrate with Aubrey Heath earning SVC Player of the Year honors, while struggling Waverly students received a meaningful boost through Fluor-BWXT's $3,500 donation to the COPE program. And there's immediate relief at the pump as gas prices have dropped 17 cents to $2.94 per gallonβ€”welcome news for everyone's budget as summer travel season continues.

πŸ’” Men twice as likely to die from "broken heart syndrome." The condition, medically known as Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy, affects people experiencing traumatic events like death of loved ones or divorce. While women make up 83% of cases, men face a mortality rate of 11.2% compared to women's 5.5%. The syndrome is triggered by emotional stress (predominantly in women) or physical stress (predominantly in men), according to the Journal of the American Heart Association study. Researchers found no improvement in mortality rates over time and emphasized that clinicians need to improve care to reduce deaths.

πŸŽ’ Fluor-BWXT donates $3,500 to help struggling Waverly students succeed. The donation supports the Community Outreach and Parent Engagement (COPE) program, which addresses students' needs outside of school that affect their academic performance. COPE connects families with essential services including food, clothing, transportation, and housing assistance. The funds will specifically help purchase interview clothing, transportation for skills training, and cover graduation expenses. Launched five years ago, the program aims to break the cycle of poverty by removing obstacles students face beyond the classroom.
