🗳️ Ross County's primary election arrives with little fanfare. Despite the lack of yard signs, voters will head to polls on May 6 to decide on important issues. All candidates are running unopposed within their parties, automatically advancing to November's general election. County residents will vote on local matters, while statewide Issue 2 seeks $2.5 billion in bonds for infrastructure improvements. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day.
⚾ Baseball legend Chip Maxwell led Zane Trace to historic 1970 victory. The high school pitching star secured an 11-game winning streak, striking out 13 batters in a 2-1 regional semifinal win against Bishop Wehrle. Maxwell dominated both on the mound and at the plate, scoring the winning run and driving in another with a double that broke Wehrle's 25-inning hitless streak. The Pioneers went on to defeat Wheelersburg 6-0 in the regional championship, becoming the first Ross County team to win a Class A regional baseball tournament. MLB scouts took notice, with Maxwell eventually being selected by the Washington Senators in the first round of the 1970 draft.
🍹 Waverly's downtown now allows outdoor drinking with new DORA program. The Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area operates Thursdays and Fridays from 6pm to midnight and Saturdays from noon to midnight. Participating establishments include Waverly Eagles, Brass Monkey, Sonora's Mexican Grill, and Beast and Bottle. Meanwhile, Ross County's Bridge Street construction project begins May 7, maintaining two lanes in both directions. Pike County will also start an Ohio 32 Intersection Improvement project on May 12.
🍔 Step back in time at Maddy's Diner 23 in Waverly. This nostalgic eatery, purchased by Jamie and Charlie Maddy in 2022, features checkered tiles and red stools that transport diners to a classic American diner experience. Most food is homemade with locally-sourced ingredients from Dresbach Farms, creating what Jamie describes as "like going to grandma's house." Popular menu items include the hearty "gutbuster" breakfast and their signature smash burger, with weekend buffets drawing crowds to this Emmitt Avenue establishment that's open six days a week.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
