๐ŸŽพ Victory streak smasher

Ross County • April 10, 2025

โ€‹

Good morning, Ross County. The 113-game winning streak that seemed as unbreakable as a diamond has finally shattered. Chillicothe tennis made history by toppling Waverly's tennis dynasty, with JB Maravilla and Elijah Yandilla delivering a comeback for the ages. It's just one highlight in a week where local sports dominance is on full display, from Cadie Boltenhouse's softball heroics to Coach Tony Taylor collecting his 400th career victory.

Beyond the playing fields, the Scioto River is putting on a dramatic performance of its own, surging to within inches of flood stage after our weekend deluge. Meanwhile, as spring gardens bloom, pet owners might want to think twice about certain plants that could harm furry friends. And for snack enthusiasts, Lay's million-dollar chip contest has narrowed to three mouthwatering finalists โ€“ though none can match the taste of victory our local athletes are savoring this week.

๐ŸŸ Lay's million-dollar chip contest narrows to three tantalizing finalists. Bacon Grilled Cheese, Hot Sauce & Lime, and Korean-Style Fried Chicken flavors emerged from over 700,000 submissions in the annual "Do Us A Flavor" competition. Each finalist draws inspiration from personal storiesโ€”an Oklahoma woman's late father's recipe, a Californian's childhood snack, and a Virginian's experience in South Korea. Fans can sample all three flavors in stores nationwide and vote for their favorite until June 13, with the winner taking home the coveted $1 million prize.

๐ŸŒŠ Scioto River surges dangerously close to flood stage after weekend downpour. The river in Chillicothe rose dramatically from its typical 4-6 feet level to 15.58 feet by Monday, April 7, just shy of the 16-foot flood threshold. Other sections of the Scioto fared worse, with measurements in Piketon reaching 24.32 feet, well beyond its 20-foot flood stage. Meanwhile, Paint Creek near Bournville peaked at 12.15 feet on Saturday before receding to 5.99 feet by Monday. The rapid rise followed several days of continuous rainfall across the region.

โšพ Chillicothe's softball dominance earns them top spot in power rankings. The Cavaliers' strong defense has limited opponents to no more than three runs per game, with a standout 25-3 victory against Washington. Sophomore stars Cadie Boltenhouse and CJ Rittinger have been instrumental to their success, with Boltenhouse driving in five runs including a three-run homer in their most dominant performance. Piketon claims the second spot thanks to Kyndall Carroll's consistent pitching, while Adena rounds out the top three with Marly Halcomb's impressive .808 batting average leading their offense.
