🌿 Budget and Buds

Ross County • December 25, 2024

Good morning, Ross County. In a plot twist worthy of a Hollywood script, Chillicothe's latest $27M budget approval session transformed into an unexpected cannabis debate, proving that even routine city council meetings can pack more drama than a Netflix series. While officials hash out the details of dispensary regulations, the real showstopper is the $20M earmarked for completing that long-running sewer plant makeover – because nothing says "municipal glow-up" quite like infrastructure improvements.

Speaking of unexpected developments, our local McDonald's and Speedway have become unlikely stages for a series of incidents that read like a crime procedural marathon. From Good Samaritans facing retaliation to police intercepting suspects mid-injection, these stories remind us that beneath our community's surface, there's always something brewing – though preferably, it should be coffee, not trouble.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

💰 Chillicothe approves $27M budget as cannabis debate continues. The city council passed the balanced 2025 budget during their final session of the year, with projected revenue matching expenses for the general fund. Major capital projects totaling nearly $30M are planned, including $20M for completing a long-running sewer plant remodel. A controversial cannabis dispensary moratorium sparked debate, with council failing to table the measure despite some members questioning its necessity. The city's Law Director clarified that the ordinance would only regulate dispensary locations, not products, while noting existing state regulations already restrict placement near schools and other facilities.
