🎣 Phish detection

Good morning, Preble County. Digital danger lurks in Miami University inboxes, with students facing up to 4,000 phishing attempts daily. Sophomore Paige Sandy learned this harsh lesson firsthand after falling for two scams, including a fake research opportunity that promised $300 weekly but delivered only heartache. The university has now launched "The Phish Bowl" website to help students identify and avoid these increasingly sophisticated traps, reminding everyone to "stop, validate and delete" rather than clicking suspicious links.

On a far more tragic note, the search for 20-year-old kayaker Garrett LaRue has ended with the recovery of his body from a private lake near New Paris after his craft capsized. As the community processes this heartbreaking news, civic engagement continues with Miami University's upcoming Meet the Candidates Night on October 28, offering township trustee candidates from Liberty and West Chester a platform to connect with voters at the Voice of America Learning Center.
