Preble County • September 19, 2025
Good morning, Preble County. Mark your calendars for September 26 – a date that's bringing both culinary excitement and alumni pride to our region. Steel City Pizza is firing up its wood-burning ovens in Hamilton after relocating from Middletown, transforming the former Arches Saloon into their permanent home. The move represents a bittersweet transition for owners who credit Middletown as the "root" of their story while embracing new opportunities to shape their business future.
Meanwhile, Miami University's journalism program continues producing remarkable talent, with alumni Madeline Mitchell and Reis Thebault earning the prestigious "18 of the Last 9 Award." These former Miami Student staffers have quickly risen through the ranks at USA Today and The Washington Post respectively. Looking further ahead, Earlham College has secured Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to deliver their Presidential Lecture in 2026, continuing the institution's tradition of bringing notable speakers to Indiana.

🍕 Steel City Pizza relocates from Middletown to Hamilton, opening September 26. The pizzeria, known for its wood-fired offerings, originally planned to expand but decided to fully move operations to the former Arches Saloon building they now own. Owners Jeremy Loukinas and Nicole Condrey will host a soft opening with limited menu options on September 24-25 before the official launch. Despite leaving Middletown, where the business began nearly three years ago, Condrey noted that the city "will always proudly be the root of Steel City Pizza's story." The owners cited better growth opportunities in Hamilton, where they can "fully control, shape and guide" their business.

Thebault, who graduated in 2016, serves as The Washington Post's West Coast correspondent after internships at major newspapers. The honorees will return to campus on September 26 for a networking lunch to connect with current students and celebrate their accomplishments.
