📚 Ohio's Senate Bill 1 strips power from University Senate. Miami University's governing body must now navigate a diminished role as the Board of Trustees gains "final, overriding authority" for curricular decisions under the new law. Previously responsible for curriculum and programs, the Senate is now limited to providing "advice, feedback and recommendations" starting September 30. In response, members formed an Ad Hoc Committee to amend the Enabling Act while also addressing the new American Civic Literacy requirement for future graduates. Senate Chair Nathan French urged members to reenvision their advisory capacity to remain "an indispensable part of the institution."
