Good morning, Preble County. Fifty-two percent of land litter eventually makes its way into our rivers – a sobering statistic that inspired the Onion Bag Litter Prevention Project's ingenious solution. For six years, these simple mesh bags have been helping Mount Vernon residents keep waterways clean, and now the grassroots initiative is expanding to place 75 boxes along the Great Miami River, turning everyday adventurers into environmental stewards.

Academic excellence continues to flourish locally as six Preble County students graduate from Miami University, an institution delivering "Ivy League-quality education at a public school price." Meanwhile, Northmont schools are ensuring no child goes hungry through their comprehensive free and reduced-price meal program for the upcoming school year. Thanks to state funding, even students who qualify for reduced-price options will receive meals at no cost – a meaningful support for families navigating today's economic challenges.

🌊 Onion bags help Ohioans keep waterways trash-free. The Onion Bag Litter Prevention Project has been fighting river pollution in Mount Vernon for six years by placing boxes filled with reusable mesh bags near water access points. Visitors grab a bag during their adventures, collect trash, and return the bag after disposing of waste properly. Project co-founder Curtis Casto, who builds the boxes from recycled pallets, notes that 52% of land litter eventually reaches rivers. The grassroots initiative now aims to install 75 boxes along the Great Miami River.
