Good morning, Preble County. The numbers tell a compelling story along South Alex Road in West Carrollton—289 crashes over four years, with nearly a third resulting in injuries. As traffic volumes have dropped 40% since 2009, city officials are reimagining this outdated thoroughfare, potentially transforming it from five lanes to three while bringing those narrow 9.5-foot lanes up to regulatory standards. Monday's open house offers residents a chance to shape this significant redesign that could dramatically improve safety in the area.

History and celebration are woven throughout our community this week. The Miami Tribe and Miami University are marking 50 years of partnership with their documentary "Neepwaantiinki," chronicling their journey from historical trauma to collaborative learning. Meanwhile, West Alexandria transforms into a hub of summer fun as the Ole Fashioned Jamboree brings rides, games, and treats to town May 29-31—perfect timing for families looking to kick off the season with some old-fashioned community spirit.

🚗 West Carrollton weighs major changes to outdated South Alex Road. The city is hosting an open house Monday to gather public feedback on two potential redesign options for the roadway. Officials note the current 9.5-foot lanes don't meet the 11-foot regulatory standard, making it difficult to secure resurfacing grants. The road has seen 289 crashes between 2017-2021, with 29% resulting in injuries. Traffic volumes have declined 40% since 2009, prompting consideration of reducing the five-lane road to three lanes with wide shoulders.

🏛️ A university and a tribe rebuild their connection through learning. The Miami Tribe and Miami University have transformed a painful history into a 50-year partnership of mutual education. Their relationship has flourished through the Myaamia Center, which recently released "Neepwaantiinki" (meaning "learning from each other"), the first episode in a documentary series chronicling their collaboration. The series explores both historical trauma like forced removal and contemporary tribal revitalization efforts. Featuring perspectives from tribal leaders, center staff, and students, the documentary represents years of careful collaboration to tell the Miami Tribe's story on their own terms.
