Good morning, Preble County. Oxford's urban landscape is about to get a colorful transformation! The city has launched an ambitious search for artists to create a large-scale mural on the Municipal Parking Garage, with selection wrapping up by August and completion targeted for late 2025. This artistic initiative runs parallel to another forward-thinking project—a micro home neighborhood specifically designed for residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities, highlighting Oxford's commitment to inclusive community planning.
Less appetizing news comes from local restaurant inspections, where Butler County health officials discovered concerning violations at several Oxford eateries last month. Uptown Blends topped the unwanted list with fourteen violations, including the eyebrow-raising storage of drink powder in a toilet room. Meanwhile, Happy Kitchen faced similar scrutiny with seven critical violations, though some establishments like Fiesta Charra maintained better standards with minimal issues.

🎨 Oxford seeks artist for stunning new parking garage mural. The City of Oxford and Public Arts Commission have announced plans for a large-scale art installation on the Oxford Municipal Parking Garage at 6 W. Walnut Street. A selection committee will recommend three finalists who will develop comprehensive design plans for public consideration. With a submission deadline of July 10 and final artist selection by August 11, the city hopes to complete the project by the end of 2025. While artists of all backgrounds aged 18+ may apply, experience with large-scale murals is preferred.
🏠 Oxford plans tiny homes for people with disabilities. The Oxford City Council is working with Empower Me Living to develop a micro home neighborhood at 5234 Hester Road. This inclusive community will specifically serve residents with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The council's busy May 6 meeting also approved road drainage improvements for S. Locust Street and recommended adding a BCRTA stop at the Knolls of Oxford. Mayor William Snavely officially proclaimed May 28 as Oxford Historic Preservation Day.
🍽️ Oxford restaurants slapped with health code violations in April. Butler County inspectors discovered alarming issues at Uptown Blends, which received seven critical and seven non-critical violations, including drink powder stored in the toilet room and debris buildup in the ice machine. Happy Kitchen followed closely with seven critical violations, including staff handling ready-to-eat noodles with bare hands and mold in the ice machine. Of the 18 establishments inspected, several fared better, with restaurants like Fiesta Charra and Mac & Joe's receiving minimal or no violations.
