🦍 Baby bonobo named after zoo legend who championed the species. Columbus Zoo announced the newborn bonobo is called Winstel, honoring Don Winstel who served the zoo for 36 years. Don played a crucial role in bringing bonobos to the zoo in 1990 and established connections with the world's only bonobo sanctuary. The baby, born to first-time mother Kibibi, is the great-grandson of two original bonobos in the zoo's care. Winstel made his public debut last month, continuing a legacy that Don inspired through his mentorship and leadership.
