Good morning, Powell. Hilliard's tech scene is making waves far beyond Central Ohio, with its innovative City Lab propelling the suburb into the elite "Smart21 cities" globally. The incubator has transformed a simple broadband project into an economic powerhouse, generating $87 million in private investment and supporting over 1,245 jobs through its high-speed fiber network, generous grants, and AI testing playground—proving that tomorrow's tech success stories are blooming right in our backyard.
While innovation drives Hilliard forward, two practical community initiatives are improving daily life elsewhere. Upper Arlington residents will soon enjoy the perfect pairing of caffeine and sweetness at Mallway Market Coffee + Cone, a thoughtfully designed grab-and-go spot combining One Line Coffee with classic soft serve treats. Meanwhile, Union County's free tire collection event on October 18 offers a simple solution to a pesky problem—eliminating potential breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes before they become a public health concern.

🚀 Hilliard's tech incubator transforms startups into success stories. The Hilliard City Lab offers entrepreneurs access to a 71-mile high-speed fiber network, grants up to $25,000, and a collaborative testing environment without bureaucratic hurdles. Since 2022, the city has awarded 46 grants totaling $1.2 million, generating $87 million in private investment and supporting over 1,245 jobs. The incubator features an "AI Sandbox" for prototype testing and partners with local schools for student internships. What began as a broadband infrastructure project has evolved into a thriving innovation hub that earned Hilliard recognition among the world's Smart21 cities.
🍦 Upper Arlington's newest spot combines coffee and soft serve treats. Mallway Market Coffee + Cone is coming to the historic district at 1966 N. Mallway Dr., designed as a convenient grab-and-go destination for both parents and children. Owner Alyssa Litzinger created the concept to fit naturally into neighborhood routines, offering classic vanilla soft serve paired with chocolate or seasonal flavors in various forms including sundaes and ice cream sandwiches. The shop will serve One Line Coffee drinks focusing on approachable favorites like lattes and cold brew, with plans to open later this year.
🚗 Free tire drop-off could help fight disease-carrying mosquitoes. Union County Health Department is hosting a free tire collection event on October 18 from 9am to noon at the fairgrounds in Marysville, Ohio. Residents can bring up to 10 passenger vehicle tires per trip until the collection truck is full. The initiative aims to eliminate potential mosquito breeding grounds, as tires collect water year-round and create perfect environments for mosquitoes that may carry diseases like West Nile Virus. Only passenger vehicle tires will be accepted, and all must be off the rim.
