Powell • September 9, 2025
Good morning, Powell. Tragedy struck Union County early Saturday morning when a head-on collision claimed one life and left another person seriously injured. The pre-dawn crash on State Route 31 involved a Jeep Renegade crossing the centerline and colliding with a Honda Civic, resulting in both a fatal impact and vehicle fire. As investigators piece together what happened, multiple road projects are simultaneously reshaping travel throughout the area, with closures affecting U.S. 42 and SR 736 expected to continue well into 2025.
Meanwhile, aspiring entrepreneurs are polishing their pitches as Ohio Wesleyan University launches its second annual "Shark Tank"-style competition with applications open through September 26. The stakes couldn't be higher for participants in both student and professional tracks, as they'll compete for investments from a $100 million fund and have their winners announced by none other than Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak during the three-day Kickstart Ohio conference.

🚧 Major roadwork disrupts Union County traffic this summer. U.S. 42 southbound between SR 745 and U.S. 33 will close starting July 8 through Fall 2025, though northbound lanes remain open. Meanwhile, SR 736 between Taylor Rd. and Robinson Rd. closed June 16 for a 120-day bridge replacement project. Another section of SR 736 over Robinson Run faces lane restrictions through Fall 2025, with traffic managed by temporary signals.
