Good morning, Powell. When a family business evolves from selling sauce to opening a full-service restaurant, you know they've got something special cooking. That's exactly what's happening this Friday as a father-son duo launches Wilson's Bar & Grill in Hilliard, adding another flavorful option to the area's evolving dining landscape. The establishment represents not just a new eatery, but the culmination of a family's journey through the food industry.
Elsewhere in our community, familiar faces are making meaningful impacts. Delaware "townie" Melissa Stroupe has stepped into the role of office manager at the Delaware Area Chamber of Commerce, bringing her passion for local history and community service to the position. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Alex Maruskin continues his advocacy work, meeting with Zoombezi Bay officials to develop clearer, more inclusive dress code policies after his successful campaign previously changed rules at Upper Arlington's pool.

🍔 Father-son duo opens Wilson's Bar & Grill in Hilliard this Friday. The restaurant marks a significant expansion for the team who originally started in the sauce business. Located in Hilliard, Ohio, Wilson's Bar & Grill represents a shift from their previous food industry endeavors to a full-service dining establishment. The opening adds to the changing restaurant landscape in Hilliard, where several other eateries have recently announced new locations or concept changes.
🏊 Trans teen challenges water park dress code after discrimination. Alex Maruskin, an 18-year-old transgender man, is advocating for clearer, more inclusive policies at Zoombezi Bay after staff questioned his swimwear despite wearing body tape and appropriate coverage. This follows his successful 2022 campaign that changed Upper Arlington's pool dress code to explicitly permit body tape as acceptable coverage. Zoombezi Bay officials, including their diversity director, have agreed to meet with Maruskin and Trans Ohio to review their vague policy that currently leaves appropriateness to staff interpretation. "I was changing the rules for people in the future who could be in the same situation," Maruskin explained.
🌆 Delaware Chamber welcomes hometown talent as new office manager. Melissa Stroupe, a self-described Delaware "townie," has taken on the position at the Delaware Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber President Holly Quaine expressed enthusiasm about working with Stroupe, calling her "a gift!" Beyond her professional role, Stroupe actively serves the community as a leader in the Delaware County Historical Society, co-chair of the America 250 Committee, and a dedicated 4-H volunteer who received the 2023 Ohio 4-H Innovator Award. When not working to improve Delaware County, she enjoys history, arts, and keeping up with her three children's activities.
