๐ต Paisha Thomas finds healing power in Mavis Staples' timeless music. The Columbus artist is preparing for a tribute show at Natalie's Grandview where she'll perform songs spanning Staples' career, from Civil Rights anthems to romantic ballads. Like her musical inspiration, Thomas views music as "helpful medicine" during challenging social and political times, using it to imagine alternatives to oppression. Thomas connects deeply with Staples' legacy of blending gospel roots with social justice, having herself written songs about overcoming inequity and creating change. Her performance will highlight what she calls Staples' catalog of "love and justice" โ an act of resistance through joy and humanity.
