🚧 Detour dilemma

Good morning, Powell. The roadways of Union County are transforming before our eyes, with construction projects creating a maze of closures and detours that rivals any puzzle. From overnight shutdowns on SR 161 to the months-long closure of U.S. 36, local drivers will need to pack extra patience (and perhaps a detailed map) as they navigate the temporary transportation landscape that stretches into 2025. The good news? These improvements promise smoother travels ahead.

Meanwhile, two remarkable community figures are making headlines for very different reasons. Anita Davis leaves behind a tapestry of service and love at age 93 after dedicating a decade to the Richwood Civic Center, while Police Chief Robert Hartman has earned Ohio's highest law enforcement honor for transforming Smithville's department during challenging recruitment times. Both stories remind us that exceptional leadership, whether quiet or commanding, leaves lasting impressions on the communities they serve.

🚧 Union County roads face multiple closures for construction projects. SR 161/Post Rd. eastbound under U.S. 33 will close overnight from May 4-11 for bridge painting. Meanwhile, U.S. 36 between U.S. 33 and Delaware County Line remains closed until mid-July for culvert replacements. SR 736 over Robinson Run has lane restrictions through Fall 2025, with traffic maintained via temporary signal. Additionally, two ramps at the SR 161/U.S. 33 interchange are closed for reconstruction until Summer 2025, with designated detours in place for affected motorists.
