Good morning, Powell. A cherished tradition dating back to 1905 springs back to life this week as Woodward Elementary third-graders revive the delightful May Day maypole dance at Boardman Arts Park. What began at the original Boardman Elementary will continue May 1st as Delaware celebrates the school's 120-year legacy, with alumni like Vicki Brown Osborn—who first danced around the maypole in 1948—being specially recognized at this free community celebration.

On a more somber note, the community bids farewell to Richard Hutter, whose remarkable 87-year journey recently ended after a December stroke. The U.S. Army veteran and successful business owner leaves behind not just his wife of 63 years and extended family, but a legacy of patriotism, philanthropy, and passion for everything from Cleveland sports to Lionel trains. His life reminds us how deeply individual stories weave into the fabric of our community.

The event will specially recognize Boardman Elementary alumni as Delaware celebrates the school's 120-year anniversary. "I danced the maypole many times," recalled alumnus Vicki Brown Osborn, who attended in 1948. The free public celebration runs from 11am-1pm with popcorn and gelato available.

🗳️ Harris's Walz pick doomed her presidential campaign. Selecting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate was among several critical missteps that contributed to Kamala Harris's defeat by Donald Trump last November. Political analysts suggest Harris likely would have lost regardless, even if she had chosen the more politically skilled Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro instead. Her campaign's inability to read the national mood proved decisive in the election outcome just eight months after making her vice-presidential selection.
