Good morning, Portage County. The vibrant sounds of polka and aroma of Slovenian sausages will fill the air at SNPJ Farm this Saturday during the annual Slovenian Grape Festival. This colorful cultural celebration features traditional costumes, accordion music, and authentic cuisine—a delightful reminder of our region's rich immigrant heritage. For those feeling festive, don traditional attire or bring an accordion for free admission to this Cleveland Slovenian Week highlight.

Northeast Ohio recently lost a true trailblazer with the passing of Mary Rose Oakar at 85. As the first Democratic woman elected to Congress from Ohio, Oakar championed women's economic equality and secured landmark breast cancer research funding during her 16-year tenure. Meanwhile, in more local matters, Chagrin Falls police found themselves mediating a pizza shop dispute between a young manager and business owner—proving that even in the world of pepperoni and cheese, tensions can occasionally rise.

👩‍💼 Mary Rose Oakar broke barriers for women in American politics. The pioneering Ohio congresswoman, who died Saturday at 85, served 16 years in the U.S. House as the first Democratic woman elected to Congress from Ohio. Oakar championed women's economic equality, secured landmark funding for breast cancer research, and fought to extend Social Security benefits to Catholic nuns. Despite her career being cut short by a banking scandal in 1992, she remained politically active, later serving in the Ohio legislature and as president of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.
