Good morning, Portage County. Time stands still for no one, not even music icons. At 72, Cyndi Lauper transformed Blossom Music Center into a nostalgic wonderland during her farewell tour, delivering beloved hits while sharing the stories behind them. Though her powerful vocals remain impressive, the outdoor venue perhaps wasn't ideal for her intimate storytelling approach that occasionally slowed the show's momentum.

Summer brings more musical delights to our local parks as Hiram Village hosts two more free concerts in their Picnic in the Park series. Pack your dinner and lawn chairs for Swap Meet's hillbilly swing on August 3rd or Bent String's blues and jazz on August 17th. Meanwhile, an extraordinary milestone was celebrated when Dr. Howard Tucker, the world's oldest practicing physician at 103, marked 90 years since his bar mitzvahβ€”a remarkable chapter in a life so extraordinary it's now been captured in a documentary.

🎀 Cyndi Lauper bids farewell with hits and heartfelt stories. The 72-year-old icon transformed Blossom Music Center into a nostalgic time machine during her "Girls Just Want to Have Fun Farewell Tour" stop in Ohio. While delivering fan favorites like "She Bop," "Time After Time," and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," Lauper frequently paused to share personal anecdotes and song origins throughout the two-hour set. Though her powerful vocals and signature moves remained impressive, the concert's momentum occasionally suffered from the story-heavy format that might have worked better in a more intimate venue than an outdoor amphitheater.

Dr. Howard Tucker marked this extraordinary milestone on July 12 at Park Synagogue in Pepper Pike, reciting Torah blessings surrounded by family and congregation. The Guinness World Record holder originally had his bar mitzvah in 1935 at the Cleveland Jewish Center under Rabbi Armond Cohen.
