Good morning, Portage County. Summer in Northeast Ohio is in full swing, with Geauga County transforming into a hub of community connection. From Chester Christian Center's food pantry to Chardon Square's concert series and farmers market, the calendar is packed with opportunities to enjoy the season without spending a dime. Mark your calendars for special events like the Maple Splash Festival on July 12, where food, entertainment, and prizes await.

Meanwhile, financial decisions are shaping our region's future. Cuyahoga Falls officials are considering a tax increment financing district for a luxury home development that would generate $656,000 in tax revenue over a decade. In Solon, quick-acting parents and residents successfully rallied to protect nearly $9 million in critical school funding that was threatened by proposed legislation, demonstrating how community advocacy can create real impact at the state level.

📊 Solon parents rally to protect $9 million in school funding. Residents contacted state legislators to oppose House Bill 335, which would cut nearly 10% of the Solon school district's budget and $5 million from city funds. The district warned that essential services, including safety forces and student programs, would be at risk if the bill passed. Thanks to community advocacy, provisions affecting inside millage will not be included in the state budget, according to district communications director Tamara Strom.
