Good morning, Portage County. Layer upon layer of crime unfolded at Dick's Sporting Goods when a Cleveland man was caught wearing not one, not two, but three pairs of pants simultaneously—with the bottom two being stolen merchandise. Police discovered the creative shoplifter had amassed quite a collection, with $500 worth of items from Dick's alone, before transporting him to face the music at the Geauga County Sheriff's Office.

From the bizarre to the brilliant, Portage County is buzzing with fascinating stories. Akron's bicentennial celebration has unearthed some truly strange historical footnotes, including a resident who passed a 27-foot tapeworm after consulting 20 doctors. Meanwhile, Kent State scientists transformed North Water Brewing Co. into a laboratory of ideas during the "Pint of Science" festival, proving that complex research pairs perfectly with a cold craft beer—so successfully that next year's event is already on the calendar.

🔬 Kent State scientists bring cutting-edge research to local brewery. During the three-evening "Pint of Science" event at North Water Brewing Co., university researchers explained complex scientific concepts in accessible ways. Topics ranged from ecological research methods and butterfly population declines to DNA manipulation, Venus exploration, and strategies for overcoming math anxiety. The global festival, which originated in Great Britain in 2013, aims to bridge the gap between scientists and the public by hosting talks in comfortable, casual settings.
