🌳 New trails ahead

Portage County • January 29, 2025

Good morning, Portage County. After nine years of steering our parks through seasons of growth and change, Commissioner Chuck Engelhart is hanging up his hiking boots. His departure from the Park District's board marks the end of an era, but also opens the trail for a new community leader to help shape our natural spaces. The position might not come with a paycheck, but the rewards of preserving our county's outdoor heritage are priceless.

In stark contrast to the serenity of our parks, troubling shadows loom over Summit County, where outreach teams are documenting a 56% surge in homelessness since 2022. These dedicated workers are braving the winter chill to count our unsheltered neighbors, gathering vital data that could unlock the resources needed to turn the tide on this growing crisis.
