🧤 Glove revival

Pike County • October 10, 2025

Good morning, Pike County. A remarkable economic revival is unfolding as the shuttered 200-year-old Pixelle paper mill transforms into US Medical Glove Company's newest manufacturing facility. This industrial phoenix rising from the ashes promises at least 500 new jobs for an area that lost 800 positions when the paper plant closed in April. With operations expected to begin in less than a month, this development represents a much-needed boost to the local economy.

While industrial transformation makes headlines, today's weather offers its own transition with cooler, less humid conditions settling across Ross County. Expect partly sunny skies and a pleasant 69 degrees, though you might want to grab a jacket for tonight's chilly 38-degree low. Meanwhile, Chillicothe police had their hands full Thursday when officers responded to a rather unusual disturbance—a meth-fueled incident involving a naked woman disrupting traffic on East Main Street.

☕️ What's Brewing Locally

🏭 Shuttered paper mill gets new life as medical glove factory. US Medical Glove Company is taking over the former Pixelle Specialty Solutions plant in Chillicothe, Ohio, with plans to hire at least 500 people. The company expects to begin operations within 3-4 weeks once staff is in place. This development represents a major win for the area, as the 200-year-old paper plant was previously the largest employer before Pixelle laid off 800 workers in April. Unlike the previous operation, the new US Medical Glove facility will be non-union.

🚨 Naked woman arrested after meth-fueled street disturbance. Chillicothe police took Carla Bailes into custody Thursday night after finding her unclothed in the middle of East Main Street, disrupting traffic and behaving erratically. Officers had previously responded to the same address hours earlier when neighbors reported Bailes throwing items into their yards, but she refused to answer the door at that time. Police noted unusual behavior including sanitary napkins taped to her windows and lights being turned on and off inside her home. Bailes later admitted to using methamphetamine and was charged with persistent disorderly conduct and public indecency.
