Good morning, Pike County. Mark your calendars for October 1st—the Community Action Committee is transforming their Piketon office into a book lover's paradise with deeply discounted reads that do double duty. Every paperback and hardcover purchased not only finds a new home on your shelf but also helps fund vital community initiatives throughout Pike County. With donations being accepted through September 30th, there's still time to contribute your gently-used literary treasures to this meaningful cause.

Meanwhile, downtown Chillicothe recently underwent an unexpected transformation as Paint Street became a temporary beach volleyball venue complete with sand courts right in front of the courthouse. The unusual sight drew spectators of all ages, with competitive players showcasing impressive spikes while ten-year-old Julianna Arthurs built sand castles on the sidelines—proving that sometimes the most memorable community moments happen when ordinary streets become extraordinary venues.

💰 Budget cuts spark backlash in struggling Ross County communities. A letter to the editor criticizes VP Vance and Senator Husted for defending federal budget cuts while supporting tax breaks for billionaires. The writer points out stark economic disparities between wealthy areas like Upper Arlington (average income $150,000) and poorer communities like Chillicothe (average income $58,000, 17% below poverty). The letter questions how cuts to veterans' services, Medicaid, and food stamps will impact vulnerable Ross County residents, including Pixelle workers who lost jobs and grandparents raising grandchildren.
