💰 Billion dollar brilliance

Good morning, Pike County. Two billion dollars saved isn't just an impressive number—it's a testament to strategic thinking at work. The Department of Energy's procurement program has hit this remarkable milestone with help from our own Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth, which contributed $22 million to the achievement. This collaborative approach shows how combining purchasing power across 26 sites can stretch taxpayer dollars further, allowing reinvestment into critical priorities while supporting national security missions.

In stark contrast to fiscal efficiency, the Scioto County Grand Jury has been processing a different kind of productivity, returning 13 indictments in a single day. Meanwhile, a silver lining emerges for Chillicothe as the paper mill closure transforms into an opportunity for community control. The agreement with Pixelle transfers the property for just $1, ensuring the site's future benefits former employees and local residents rather than outside interests—a rare win during an industrial transition.

💰 DOE program hits $2 billion savings milestone through strategic procurement. Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth contributed $22 million to this achievement through the Supply Chain Management Center (SCMC), a collaborative program transforming enterprise supply chain efficiency since 2006. The SCMC works with prime contractors across 26 sites to negotiate better prices by leveraging combined purchasing power of $7 billion annually. FBP President Greg Wilkett called it "an incredible achievement" demonstrating commitment to taxpayer stewardship while supporting national security missions. Savings generated can be reinvested into additional site priorities, accomplishing more with existing resources.

🏭 Chillicothe paper mill agreement gives community control over its future. The informal agreement between Pixelle and JobsOhio outlines five key terms for the mill's closure, including transferring the property for $1 for redevelopment purposes. Pixelle will handle environmental remediation, demolition, and union obligations while retaining proceeds from equipment sales. The agreement ensures all property sale proceeds will benefit former employees and the Chillicothe community through job fairs and training. Local development director Tammy Eallonardo praised the deal, saying it "puts us in control of the site rather than an outsider."
