Good morning, Pike County. For over two centuries, paper has been more than just a product in Chillicothe—it's been the lifeblood of a community. As Pixelle Specialty Solutions extends operations until year-end while searching for a buyer, the historic mill's uncertain future casts a shadow over 800 jobs and generations of family legacies. The potential closure threatens to ripple through related industries from logging to local restaurants, though Chamber President Mike Throne maintains optimism about the region's resilience.

In more immediate concerns, authorities are searching for the driver of a red or maroon 2005-2011 Dodge Dakota pickup who fled after striking a 2-year-old boy on State Route 93. Meanwhile, the Southern Ohio Council of Governments continues its vital work supporting individuals with developmental disabilities across 13 counties, with their next meeting scheduled for May 2 in Chillicothe, offering both in-person and virtual attendance options.

The facility has been central to the southern Ohio city's economy for over 200 years, with generations of families working there. Beyond direct employment losses, closure would impact related businesses like logging and trucking companies, creating a ripple effect through local restaurants and retail. Despite concerns, Chamber of Commerce President Mike Throne remains optimistic about Chillicothe's resilience.
