🩺 Scrubs solidarity

Pike County • April 8, 2025

Good morning, Pike County. In healthcare settings across America, scrubs have become the modern uniform of healing—and now The Assistance House of Ross County has turned this essential workwear into a symbol of community support. Their recent "scrub drive" filled seven large bins with donated medical attire for healthcare workers who couldn't otherwise afford them, showcasing a century-old tradition of neighbors helping neighbors. Executive Director Cat Thatcher Bowen described the response as nothing short of "overwhelming" and "heartwarming."

While compassion flows through one part of our region, caution is advised in others. Clay Banner Road in Jackson County begins a two-week closure Wednesday for essential culvert replacement, requiring drivers to plan alternate routes. Meanwhile, a more urgent situation unfolded on Buchanan Road when law enforcement responded to reports of an armed man allegedly threatening neighbors before barricading himself in his Waverly home—a stark reminder of the varied challenges our community faces daily.
