Pike County • February 24, 2025
Good morning, Pike County. In the hide-and-seek championship nobody asked for, a local woman recently discovered that storage totes don't make the best invisibility cloaks. While creative, her unsuccessful attempt to evade police in a closet container joins the pantheon of "it seemed like a good idea at the time" moments, alongside using banana peels as shoe insoles and microwaving metal.
On a more poignant note, art is proving to be a powerful force for healing in our community, as one father's heartbreaking loss transforms into hope through "The Best of Ross County" art exhibition. Meanwhile, motorists will need to flex their detour-navigation muscles starting Monday, as State Route 327 near Wellston closes for improvements. Consider it an adventure in scenic route appreciation.

🚔 Woman's creative hiding spot in storage tote fails to fool police. Enddasey Banks was discovered tucked away inside a closet container during a police response to a Chillicothe, Ohio disturbance call. Officers initially received a tip that the suspect was hiding under a bed upstairs at the Hirn Street address. Banks, who had four active warrants across two law enforcement agencies, was taken into custody without resistance. The incident occurred on February 22, 2025, during what began as a routine disorderly conduct investigation.
🚧 Major road closure hits State Route 327 near Wellston starting Monday. The Ohio Department of Transportation will shut down a section between SR 32 and Wellston Industrial Park Road for a culvert replacement project. Drivers must follow detours via Wellston Industrial Park Road and Fairgreens Road during the closure. Jackson County Engineer warns motorists to exercise caution while navigating unfamiliar alternate routes. The duration of the closure has not been announced.
🎨 A father's grief transforms into hope through high school art show. Following his teenage son's suicide in 2006, Jim Butt created a foundation sponsoring "The Best of Ross County" art exhibition at the Pump House Center for the Arts. The foundation, named after James "Beans" Butt who was a passionate young artist, works to prevent suicide and promote mental health resources. They actively support the 988 emergency number and are planning to bring suicide-prevention speaker Kevin Hines to the area. The free exhibition, featuring Ross County high school artists, runs through February 28th at the Pump House.
